INDIA Vs Mexico - 12 OCT 2011

 

 India beat 2008 FIP World Cup bronze medalists Mexico 11-9 to register their first victory in the league match of 2011 World Cup final. Incidentally this is the first win for India in any FIP World Cup finals since it was instituted in 1982 . The only other win for India was in 1996 World Cup final against Switzerland which had qualified for the World Cup final not on merit but as the host country. India had lost all its three games in the 2001 World Cup finals in Australia.

The weather forecast for the day had predicted rain and thundershowers which came true, it was raining since the morning with temperature around 12 degrees when the game started it was windy and cold.

The Indian team entered in the match was a 13 goal tem -

Against Mexico which was also a 13 goal side –

 The Mexican team started strong winning the throw in at the start of the match and put pressure on the Indian side in the opening minutes of the game , they were quick to get two quick goals in the first five minutes through  Valerio Aguilar    to make the score board read 2-0 in favour of Mexico. Vishal Chauhan was quick in attack to take on a pass from Tarun Sirohi and run to goal but he was fouled in the danger area resulting in a 40 yard penalty which was taken and Scored by Samir suhag to make the score 2-1 at end of chukker one for Mexico.
 
The Mexican team came out on their better horses in the second chukker playing hard aggressive polo and putting pressure on the Indians they were successful in getting two quick field goals in the beginning of the chukker to make it 4-1 , the Indian side got a field goal scored by Vishal Chauhan on a Tarun Sirohi promotion but a penalty awarded to Mexico soon thereafter which was converted by Valerio Aguilar to make the score 5-2 for Mexico. Ravi Rathore picked up a loose goal and made a solo run to goal where he was fouled at the goal mouth and penalty was awared for India which Samir converted.
 
The third Chukker saw some fast polo action , both teams were adequately warmed up in the chilling 10 – 12 degrees windy day and Mexicans put a lot of pressure on the Indian Back Tarun Sirohi but could not get past, Tarun made some brilliant saves for India finding form with his long back hand shots.. Samir Suhag played a stellar role as a pivot hitting long passes for the forwards Ravi and Vishal who were both sharp and in good nick, the pressure on Mexico by both these Indian forwards pushed them to make mistakes and commit fouls which were all brilliantly converted by Samir Suhag in the penalties awarded to India. The score line read 5-6 for Mexico at end of chukker 3.
 
Mexican player had a fall at the beginning of the fourth chukker when he was ridden off hard by Indian No 1 Ravi Rathore. Samir Suhag kept the pressure on with Tarun Closing the backdoor completely for the Mexicans in the fourth chukker , at the end of which the score was 6-6 for India, we scored through penalty converted by Samir Suhag.
 
Tarun Sirohi made a solo run to goal from a throw in at the beginning of Chukker 5 but was unlucky not to get a goal as the ball got deflected and went out after hitting opponents pony, the forwards Ravi and Vishal kept attacking the mexican goal getting three penalties all three were converted by Samit to make the score 9-7 at end of Chukker 5.
 
The last chukker saw the mexicans play their best mounting attacks on the Indian Goals but the Indian Back Tarun Sirohi thwarted most of them, Samir Suhag playing a brilliant game earned two penaties both were converted by Samir Suhag to end the game 11-9 for India.
 
The Indian Ambassador in Argentina HE R Viswanathan watched the Indian get this historic win.
 

INDIA Vs ITALY - 14 OCT 2011

 

India went down fighting 13-12 to European Zone Champions and tournament favourites Italy in a keenly contested game which what was termed by many as the best match of this FIP World Cup so far.

India started with a one goal advantage on handicap but the Italians started off in style scoring a brilliant field goal in the first 30 seconds through Francisco Elizalde who ran past two Indian defenders to score and get Italy their first goal. Juan Jauretche picked up the ball from the thrown in and  promoted a nice under the neck shot finding Manuel Elizalde who did not make any mistake getting Italy up 2-1 in the first three minutes.

India took a few minutes to get into the groove – Samir suhag pinched the ball away from the Italian back and promoted it for the waiting Indian forward Ravi Rathore at the centre of the field, Ravi had a brilliant run to goal and he scored the first goal for India to get the score 2-2 but the Italians scored another goal through Francisco off a 60 yard penalty in the last minute of Chukker 1.to make the score 3-2 at end of chukker one

Francisco scored another goal in the beginning of the second chukker minutes later Tarun Sirohi promoted a long ball for Ravi Rathore who dribbled past the Italian defender to score making it 3-3 , Indians combined well in the chukker Tarun Sirohi sealed the back door and did not give Francisco who was being marked by Vishal Chauhan any room to manoeuvre. Samir suhag picked a near side back hand of Traun Sirohi and promoted it for Ravi Rathore who was on a fast horse and made no mistake to score getting the Indians up 4-3. Tarun Sirohi picked up a loose ball from the throw in and hit a long shot and finished it well to get another goal for India to make the score 5-3 for India at end of chukker 2.

Vishal Chauhan had a bad fall in the beginning of Chukker 3 on the side boards and game was stopped for almost 10 minutes. The Italians did maximum damage in this chukker scoring four goals through Francisco and Juan Jauretche who were both in top form. India could just manage one goal through Samir Suhag’s 60 yard penalty, score at end of chukker 3 was 7-6 for Italy.

Indians gor their act together in the fourth chukker scoring four goals through Samir Suhag and Ravi Rathore whereas the Italians got three .

The fifth Chukker cost India the game where we conceded 3 goals and could not score , the score line at end of chukker 5 was 12-10 for Italy,

Indians came back strong in the last chukker to get a brilliant field goal through Samir Suhag but Francisco pinched the ball away from the throw-in and made no mistake in scoring a fantastic field goal getting Italy up 13-11, Samir scored another goal in the last two minutes through a 60 yard conversion to get India 12-13. Indians were on the way to goal from the throw in when the whistle blew and Italy won 13-12

    INDIA Vs PAKISTAN  -  16 OCT 2011

 

Pakistan upset India 12 - 10 in the league match of the Polo World Cup at San Luis, Argentina to cause a major upset in this Polo World Cup

India started well drawing level in the first two minutes the one goal handicap difference that Pakistan had with a goal by Samir Suhag and another quick goal by Tarun Sirohi to lead 2-1 , Pakistan came back strongly and kept the pressure on India who were off colour and not in good nick . The score at end of third chukker was 5-5 but in the third chukker Pakistan played brilliantly and scored four goals to be up 9-5. India could not recover after this and trailed throughout the game thereafter to finish losing 12 - 10 to Pakistan.

In another match Argentina beat Italy 8-7. India now play Argentina on 18th Oct.
